Tonight’s opening – 2013 Markham Syrah. I believe this may be the first Syrah I’ve opened at home. I’ve tasted at tastings, never gave a real second thought to them, but this one is very nice. Light, but deep in berry and dark fruit notes, soft tannins, and good body. I don’t really know if that’s an oenophile-grade description. I just like thinking about how it tastes and effectively softens the hard finish to my workday!!
That sounds AND looks like a very delicious bottle of wine.

I’ve had this same Markham wine, same year and your description was perfect. Pairs great with home made dark chocolate truffles rolled in merlot salt and crushed almonds. Truffles were a rescue creation from strawberry dipping chocolate gone amuck. Tempering chocolate, as it turned out, is not as easy as one would think. They turned out great; and paired well with the Markham Syrah.
